Trade surplus down 10% to US$20.2b in May

China's trade surplus reached 20.2 billion U.S. dollars in May, down 10 percent from the same month last year, the General Administration of Customs said on Wednesday.

Exports in May rose 28.1 percent over May last year to 120.49 billion U.S. dollars, while imports rose 40 percent to 100.29 billion U.S. dollars.

The export growth rate was 6 percentage points lower than the same month of last year, whereas the import growth rate was 20.9 percentage points higher.

The total trade volume in the first five months stood at 1,012.08 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year rise of 26.2 percent.
